The FIAT LANCIA UNLIMITED organizing committee invites all Fiat Lancia enthusiasts to attend the 17th annual Fiat Freak Out in Fontana, North Carolina, USA.. The date is Friday, August 13 thru Monday, August 16th, 1999. The event includes a judged concours with 10 classes (including one for non-Fiat Lancia Italian cars), People's Choice Awards, swap meet, 2 weekend mountain drives, a timed autocross track session, tech sessions, Awards banquet and vendor sales. Room reservations can be made by calling Fontana at 1-800-849-2258. Or call travel agent Eileen Roskos at Carlson Wagonlit Travel 1-800-964-1067 to help book your entire trip. All rooms have double beds and are reasonably priced starting at $71 per night. Larger accomodations with one, two or three bedrooms are also available, as well as cottages. There are 134 rooms available at Fontana of all sizes. FLU has reserved every single room available at the resort, and even so it is expected to sell out. Catch the first sight of cars and stars rolling in moment by moment. The outdoor grill will be serving dinner from 6 to 8 PM. This is a pre-registered meal. FLU Board Meeting- This year's meeting will be held at the Inn in the Bear's Den room down the hall from hospitality. The 1 hour meeting will start at 7:30 PM. SATURDAY EVENTS (Aug. 14) Fiat Freak Out Concours- 10 classes will take to the show field including "Show" and "Display only" cars. Over 150 vehicles are expected. Show field opens for cars at 9 AM, judging starts at 10 AM. A panel of very experienced judges will score all cars on a points system for first, second & third in each class. This year's classes are: A.   "Pininfarina" Spider 2000, Fuel Injected, 1983 to 1985. (Includes Pininfarina Azzura badged cars) B.   "Fiat" Spider Fuel Injected Cars, 1980 to 1982. C. Fiat Spider Carburated Cars, 1975 to 1980. D. Fiat Spider 1969-1974 Cars, (Chrome Bumper Version) E.   Lancia models including Beta Series, Beta Coupe, Zagato, Scorpion. F.    Bertone badged X 1/9, 1983 to 1988. G.   Fiat badged  X 1/9, 1974 to 1982, 1300cc & 1500cc. H. Fiat Rear Engine Class includes 500, 600, 850, Moretti, Abarth, etc… I. Saturday Concours Lunch-Catered Lunch served near show field Noon to 1PM. This is a pre-registered meal. Panoramic Concours Group Photo-A professional photographer will be there to record this historic event, Please do not remove cars from the field until after the photo! Photo time is after lunch at 1:30 PM. Dragon's Back Tour -We'll depart in small groups to tour the famous "Dragon's Back" after 3 PM concluding the car show. Follow the signs. The trip covers 20 miles to a turnaround point (refreshment & restroom stop) then returns to Fontana. You'll make nearly 700 turns during this drive. Only FLU members behind the wheel please! Non-member passengers are permitted, but insurance regulations require that drivers be FLU members. Drive safely & enjoy America's best backroad! Social Hour/Awards Banquet-Our traditional awards banquet kicks off with social hour from 6 to 7 PM. The dinner event starts at 7 PM in the large dance hall below the Fontana Inn. All prizes must be claimed when your ticket number is called! SUNDAY EVENTS (Aug. 15) "Box Lunch Pickup" Pre-registered. Autocross / Skyway tour participants. Pickup at Inn portico. Bring your cooler! "Mark Jones Memorial Autocross"-This year's Freak Out features a SCCA Autocross. (Limited to 35 cars) The object is to steer your Italian Stallion through a timed course of pylon cones in the safety of an open parking lot. Of course hitting a cone adds to you time. There will be three classes (modified, stock, special) of first, second & third. You do not need a roll bar or special equipment; loaner helmets are available. Come and show us how good your driving skills. Spectator admission is free. The Autocross driver caravan from Fontana leaves at 10 AM! Racing starts at 1 PM. The Scenic Skyway Drive, "Three Hour Tour"- Enjoy the incredible beauty of the Great Smokey Mountains in your Italian automobile! The tour follows the Cherohala Skyway and back to Fontana. Maps are provided and the route is marked. The trip covers about 100 miles and includes a lunch break during the drive. Bring your cooler. Departure at 10 AM. Expect to return to Fontana at 2 PM. Sunday Dinner Cookout-Let's get together Sunday 6 to 8 PM at the Inn to recap the weekend. Autocross awards will be announced to recognize the top pilots in the FLU membership. Monday Morning Romp-Our traditional Fiat Freak Out Monday road trip is a short one hour drive in the country. Then it's back to the hotel to pack up to head home. Time to start thinking about Fiat Freak Out 2000!
